About
Growing up at the tidewaters of the Chesapeake Bay, Pat Gomez developed an aesthetic sense for color and light through nature. Her artistry emerges through an atmosphere of large scale abstract expressionism. Vivid color, unexpected textures and the dynamic use of light combine to express emotion and adventure. Trained as a colorist in the beauty industry and interior design, Pat Gomez studied under several different artists. This includes abstract artist Peter Garon, mixed-media artists Marti Koehler and Catherine Gregory (Penland School of Crafts), and Pam Nichols and Jenny Terry, both encaustic wax artists. Pat Gomez maintains fine art studios in Naples, Florida and Park City, Utah. Her work can be found in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
Artist Statement
My work beckons with fresh expression and vitality. Colors speak in welcoming tones and invite the viewer to rest within the drama of the canvas. Large canvas allows my voice to make bold statements and whisper, continuing the conversation for the viewer with each piece.
The use of texture in my work creates a sensory touch for the eye. Texture-making includes implementing unique found objects and palette knife. My interior design eye directs me to balance and complement color and texture as I create. I incorporate many mediums including acrylic and oil paints and encaustic wax to add dimension and life to my compositions.
